Chicken Pot Pie in Wisconsin!

Chicken pot pie at The Great Dane in Madison, WI. My mom took this picture on the apartment hunting trip she and I made together. It was freakin' delicious. Do you see that pastry puff crust? Heck yes.

Food Crawl: Siam Terrace

Our second stop of the day was at Siam Terrace where we ate spring rolls, crab rangoon, fried tofu with chili sauce and my personal favorite, coconut sticky rice with mango.

Here I am trying some of that delicious stuff in my hand-painted A Lot On Her Plate t-shirt which reads "I Love Fried Food." Too true!

Food Crawl: Crane Alley

My fearless leader, Ashley DeGroot, eats pita with spinach and artichoke dip at Crane Alley, which was the first stop of our day. We also had beet chips with goat cheese. So delicious.

Food Crawl

This week I'm featuring pictures from the first annual NOW food crawl. We tried tasty things all around town and did a lot of laughing, as you can see in the picture above featuring Hillary L., Mandy W. and Anna C. This was at Cocomero, our third stop of the day where we tried bubble tea and lattes.

Fat Tuesday Treat

So the greatest thing happened in my Scandinavian Literature class yesterday; my professor brought in Semla, which is a Swedish Fat Tuesday specialty! It's a cardamom-spiced wheat bun hollowed out and filled with a marzipan pudding, topped with whipped cream, a little hat, and powdered sugar.
I know--what a bunch of stuff, right? It was delicious and even though you can't see it in this picture, I ate it with relish.
And had marzipan pudding fingers for the next hour. :)

Delicious Apple Strudel

"i just wanted to share this pic of me riding the train in vienna during my recent study abroad and devouring a delicious apple strudel--a daily ritual during my trip."
--Ellen H.

There is so much that I love about this picture: Ellen's excellent expression, the fact that she's eating strudel, her sweet navy nail polish, the girl on the strudel bag holding a giant basket of pastries . . . it's terrific. I am also in love with the fact that eating abroad is becoming an identifiable theme in this blog. Very cool.

Thanks so much to Ellen and everyone who has contributed so far. You ladies have made this blog beauuuutiful. Keep the pictures coming! alotonherplate@gmail.com

From left to right, me, Alexae S., Brittany M. and Monica G. enjoying pizza in Atlanta, Georgia. After we ate our pizza that day, we went on a terrific trip to Florida, where there were many great meals to come.

Wish I was enjoying that kind of weather today.

A Holiday Extravaganza

Miriam K. shared this picture of her family's Christmas dinner. It's terrific: four different ladies from three different generations enjoying a holiday meal together!

Love.

A Friend to the North

Jordanna G. enjoys dinner on board the Celebrity Solstice. We ate dinner with Jordanna and her family every night and felt very lucky to have such great table mates (especially when we could have ended up with the loud, laughing family who ate behind us).

P.S. Hailing from Toronto, Jordanna is our first international contributor!

Another Giant Sandwich

Deb F. devours a gang-bang (a McDouble + a McChicken). Deb clearly only eats stuff if it has a scary name. :)

Cruise Eats

Kid sister Sidney L. enjoys fresh fruit and coconut french toast at our first breakfast on the ship. I'm not lying when I say they had everything you could ever want to eat for breakfast (except Nutella, which I thought was real weird).

In this extremely cheesey picture I'm enjoying some "local stuffing" at Cuzzin's, a restaurant on St. Thomas that was once voted Best Caribbean Eats. The stuffing was  mashed sweet potatoes with raisins. Very good. I also tried jerk chicken for the first time that day. Impressive!

On Christmas morning, Sidney and I had a lavish breakfast delivered to our stateroom. Sid had pancakes and bacon.

I had french toast, hot chocolate, a bowl of cantaloupe, and some fresh squeezed grapefruit juice which is my undeniable fav. when it comes to beverages.

Here is a good view of our whole breakfast.

Here, I'm enjoying the end of a chocolate covered strawberry kabob, direct from the chocolate fountain. Yes, I thought of Amber Tamblyn and Alexis Bledel while I ate it. :)

Dinner was always a glamorous affair. I think Sidney was having some kind of delicious penne pasta with chicken and white sauce on this particular night. Dinner always consisted of an appetizer, soup or salad, your choice of entree, and a dessert. Everything was good. We always left stuffed.

This was at a restaurant in San Juan, where Sidney and I had chicken and fried plantains, which were just delicious. I don't really know what my brother is holding there in the side of the picture, but I'm sure it was good. He ate, too.
